Revelation 12:1
Clothed with the sun
1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
Douay–Rheims · Challoner revision · Apocalypse 12:1
Why this matters The woman bears cosmic signs of sun, moon, and twelve stars. She is interpreted in relation to Israel, the Church, and Mary as the Messiah’s mother. The text does not identify her exclusively as Mary; the sculpture’s halo expresses one traditional symbolic reading.
