MARY

Direct biblical statement

Luke 1:28

Full of grace

28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Douay–Rheims · Challoner revision · Luke 1:28

Why this matters

Gabriel greets Mary as one who has received God’s grace or favor. The Greek perfect passive participle kecharitōmenē suggests a grace already received with continuing significance. Catholic tradition reads this within its doctrine of grace; grammar alone does not establish the Immaculate Conception.
