MARY

Biblical typology

Revelation 12:9

The ancient serpent

9 And that great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who seduceth the whole world. And he was cast unto the earth: and his angels were thrown down with him.

Douay–Rheims · Challoner revision · Apocalypse 12:9

Why this matters

The text explicitly identifies the dragon with the ancient serpent, the devil and Satan. This creates a textual link to Genesis; a New Eve application to Mary remains a theological reading.
